How To Keep Your Car Running Like New
Cars depreciate fast; a car actually goes down in value right when you drive it off the dealer’s lot. So what can you do to make sure your car keeps running long and strong?
Maintaining your vehicle with care is one way to maximize it’s lifespan. Maintenance is taking care of everything from oil changes and tire rotation to cleaning the interior. Some items are simple to accomplish yourself, however some should be left to either a mechanic or yes, the dealer.
So what do you take care of yourself and what do you leave for the dealer? Well the easiest way to break this down is ask yourself two questions. First, are your mechanically inclined? If you answer yes then there are many items you can and should take care of yourself, from oil and filter changes to exterior maintenance. You will spend less money and know that the job was performed accurately.
It’s also important to consider if your car is under warranty. If you have a new car warranty then any and all items that are covered under the warranty should be taken care of by the dealer. Many automakers will allow for factory authorized mechanics to perform the warranty items. Check your warranty documents to be sure. If it is covered by the warranty, let them fix it.
It is important to follow the maintenance care routine prescribed by the manufacturer. Keeping up with these items and keeping track of when they were performed is a valuable record that documents the care you have given your car. It is easy to say you took care of this and that at the recommended intervals but difficult to prove. When you keep good records there is no doubt as to what was performed.
Taking care of your car’s exterior is fairly painless. If you would rather have someone do this for you there are many detailers that will come to your home or office and keep your car looking showroom new, both inside and out. If you care to tackle this yourself there are many great products to help you maintain your vehicles appearance. Just make sure you follow directions and if you would like you can also keep track of when the cleanings took place.
It is inevitable that a new car will loose value. How much and how quickly it does so has a lot to do with how well you take care of your new cars’ maintenance. Keep it clean, keep it running properly and keep it a long time and your car will last for many years.
